TRAVEL

Senior Citizens can take advantage of a wide choice of holiday breaks. Most travel agents have information about special offers on both flights and package deals and help with disabled facilities at airports etc.

HEALTH CARE WHILST ON HOLIDAY

Medical insurance is advisable. Jersey has reciprocal health care with the following countries:
- Australia
- Austria
- Barbados

- Guernsey & Alderney
- Iceland
- New Zealand
- Norway
- Portugal
- Sweden
- UK & Isle of Man

These arrangements enable you to receive certain urgent treatments under the same arrangements that are in force for the resident of the country you are visiting on a temporary basis. These are not necessarily free, and are not the same services as Jersey. Is a booklet compiled by Jersey Tourism and the Jersey Branch of ACCESS GROUP, it provides details of hotels, tourist attractions, retail outlets, pubs, restaurants, cinema/theatres, toilets, taxis/coaches and car hire with access for the disabled.

BUSES

The new Liberation Station is wheelchair friendly with disabled toilets and some buses adapted to take wheelchairs. Free bus passes are available for senior citizens.

DISABLED TOILET KEYS

Radar keys are available from St Helier Town Hall with a map of facilities. £5 refundable deposit.

LIBRARY SERVICE

The Jersey Library in Halkett Place has a large selection of books, large print books, audio books, music cassettes and CDs. Automatic entrance doors and wide aisles. Lift to first floor. Disabled toilets and for those with special passes there are three reserved parking spaces outside the main entrance. Library membership is free but you must have a permanent address and be able to show proof of it. People new to the island must have a reference from a rate payer or library member. Up to six items can be borrowed from the Halkett Place Branch or four from Les Quennevais Branch.

There is also a mobile library which travels around the Island.

ADULT EDUCATION

The Adult Education programme aims to offer as broad a range of learning opportunities for adults as possible. Courses are mostly non-vocational across a wide variety of subject areas including art, craft, dance, health and lifestyle, general interest, cookery, languages, navigation, sport and fitness and IT. There is also a vocational programme of GCSEs and AS levels, as well as a number of certificated courses in IT and navigation. The programme is open to anyone who is aged 16 or over. EXERCISE REFERRAL SCHEME

A service is offered to increase individual levels of physical activity. To promote the benefits of physical activity. To enable clients to exercise regularly and safely whilst in a supportive environment.
Access to the service is through GP or Nurse recommendation.

Grainville has specially adapted wheelchairs enabling disabled people to take part in this sport.

Meets regularly using an indoor heated swimming pool.

LES QUENNEVAIS LEISURE CENTRE

The swimming pool has a hoist for the use of the disabled and is fully adapted for the use of disabled people with special ramps, lifts, changing rooms etc.
